Painting Wild clay
During my MFA studies I investigated Rotorua Wild Clay collected from local clay sites.
In my studio at home I began experimenting with the application of Wild clay directly onto unprepared surfaces such as the concrete studio floors, framed and unframed canvases and walls. Applying this unique material onto the surrounding walls of the gallery space using my hands, feet and vigorous, gestural body movements which resulted in a finished, but unconventional work. Although using the clay like a colour palette was exciting and invigorating, having completed and evaluated this installation I realised I wanted to explore the possibilities of a more substantial but not necessarily, permanent reminder of my work.
