Agree and Perfit preserving jars were widely used in New Zealand households to preserve produce, a method of food preservation. With this body of work captured glass jars and assembled found objects is a reference to
preserve; to maintain (something) in its original or existing state,
preserving; serves to maintain, and continue life, and
preservation; the action of preserving something.

TITLE: Digital Carrier
MATERIALS: discarded CD / DVDs compact discs,
Traditionally garlands were made using surrounding plants and flowers connecting people and place through the cultural use and value of flora. “Digital Carrier” are relics, although when the CD entered consumer homes in the 1980s, these objects served as a revelation to information sharing. In the current era of climate change, I explored the things we used in our everyday lives that have a negative environmental impact. The use of discarded materials in this body of work is intended to arouse an emotive response as to its beauty and yet highlight an awareness and the impact on our environment. It illustrates to reclaim and integrate everyday materials from the refuse to the world of art.

2017 Garland Exposed
TITLE: Garland Exposed (2017) Selected for round two Wearable Arts
MATERIALS: Discarded materials; compact disks, insulation wire, plastic hair rollers, packaging strips, thread and aerosol paint
INSPIRATION: My children and mokopuna are of mixed lineage and this body of work depict hybrid connections between Māori and Pacific cultures through the interweaving of diverse materials. Traditionally, garlands were created using surrounding plants and flowers connecting people and place through the cultural use and value of flora. "Garland Expose"d links to underlying facts about transforming trash and addressing our excessive wastage. It illustrates ways which we can reclaim and integrate everyday materials from the refuse to the world of art. The design is a hybrid between traditional practices and modern adaptations. The use of discarded materials in this body of work is intended to evoke an emotional response as to the beauty of nature at the same time highlight awareness and the impact of environmental issues.
